What is the difference between Toner, Essence and Serum?!

With so many products and the 10 stepĀ Korean skincare trend that is still widely popular, it canĀ be super confusing with all these formulas and names. The one rule toĀ remember is to apply the thinnest product first and ending with the thickest that will act as an occlusive.Ā

Let's explain each product in order of application.

Toners:Ā are the thinnest and usually a watery consistency like theĀ ISNTREE ultra-low molecular HA toner, but milky toners such as theĀ TIRTIR Milk Skin TonerĀ are a little bit thicker. Since some cleansers can throw of the pH balance of your skin, toners will re-adjust the skin's pH and prep the skin with hydration for the rest of your skincare.

Usage : Cotton pads are usually soaked in toner and swept across the face, but nowadays it is popular to pat the product on with your palms or create toner sheet masks with specially made cotton pads.

Essence:Ā are heavier than toners but less concentrated than serums. They contain active ingredients like antioxidants and vitamins to provide an extra layer of hydration and enhance overall skin health. The Mixsoon Bean Essence is currently one of the most popularĀ in the Asian Beauty community.

Usage : applied after toner and patted into the skin like serums.

Serums:Ā are highly concentrated and target specific skin concerns such as brightening, acne, and anti-aging. The Numbuzin No.5+ Vitamin Serum is a popular one for darks spots.

Usage : applied after essence and patted into skin.

Remember it is not necessary to use all 3 of these at once - some people can handle using many products while others thrive on keeping it basic.Ā
